The idea behind this action is the opportunity to develop a geo-archaeology study of the territory that combines high-resolution work on a small scale with an extensive register on a large scale. Thus, the readings offered by the sensors capturing the physical/chemical properties of the soil and plants will be combined with the evidence offered by sources such as archaeology prospecting, aerial photography and historical mapping. The ultimate purpose is the development of resources to manage and protect the cultural identity of the landscapes of the Peninsular Southwest, pursuant to European agreements. The hope is to balance economic and social development to make the economic and cultural dimension of the landscapes compatible.
Finally, the knowledge acquired is of great interest for transfer to business in two outstanding aspects. On the one hand, towards improvement and innovation in registration and information analysis methods used for archaeology actions as well as the practice of Precision Agriculture. On the other hand, the dissemination and social awareness of cultural heritage as a resource for economic invigoration in rural areas through tourism and leisure activities.
