valorisation of euroace agricultural and forestry waste. research and study of possible applications

What We Do

Most agricultural and agroindustry products of higher commercial value produced in the Euroace region generate waste which cause severe environmental impacts due to the organic loads when not adequately treated before being deposited. There are now several technologies to recover energy from this waste with the simultaneous recovery of value and chemical biofertilisers which may be used to reduce imports to the area in question.

Making progress in the development of new acoustic and thermal absorption materials used in building based on natural fibres and forestry and agricultural waste is of great economic and social interest as waste and residue may be reconverted and given new value.

The reduction of CO2 and greenhouse gas emissions that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere by the combustion of this waste.

The production of new construction materials based on biomass waste with similar properties to traditional cement-based materials.

CO2 emissions reduction in the production of new matrices with respect to traditional cement.

Who Participates

Coordinated by: IPP
Participating partners: IPP, INTROMAC and CICYTEX
Collaboration from: Adega Cooperativa de Portalegre, CRL, wine producer, COOPOR - Cooperativa Agrícola do Concelho de Portalegre, CRL, olive oil producer.

How We Do It

This action consists of:

  • Using soil as carbon reserves to increase the capacity to retain this greenhouse gas.
  • ECO-coatings with enhanced acoustic, thermal and economic features using agricultural waste with cement-based binders and matrices
  • Geopolymers by activating the alkaline in biomass dross
